Coyitito And the Stars

This book, penned by H. Decker, is a young adult fantasy novel, but really it is for all ages. It follows the journey of three young heroes — Coyitito, Magdalena and Tio — who use bonds of friendship to battle the "No Faces" who want to take over the land.

Along the way, allies such as Dulcinea — The Red Departed Dolphin — and Senorita Duende — The Horse Who Finds Her Riders — help our trio against challenging forces like the giant octopus villainess, Marleena. Settings are as visually diverse as a horse corral where tragedy strikes, to the Cave of Luminosity where starfish glow as guides.

Compassion and clear communication and how to act bravely, even when we feel otherwise, drive this novel. The power of books and how reading connects us to worlds are also two of "Coyitito and the Stars'" powerful themes.
